There are several opportunities now available to serve the town on various boards and committees. The full list is available here.
Some of the opportunities are highlighted below:
- On June 1, 2015, the Planning Board was tasked with appointing a committee to serve in an advisory capacity to create a process to develop a comprehensive long-range facilities plan, siting strategy and capital funding plan to assist the Town with making informed decisions related the future uses of municipal land and buildings. This committee, the Wayland Real Estate Planning Committee (WRAP), has five vacancies: two members representing the Planning Board, two members representing the Finance Committee, and one member representing the Community Preservation Committee. Appointments will be made by the Planning Board. More information is available on its website here.
- Two openings on the Wayland Youth Advisory Committee recently became available, one of the School Committee’s designee and one of the Board of Selectmen’s designee. The Youth Advisory Committee oversees the operation of Wayland Youth & Family Services, a Town department that supports the healthy development of young Wayland residents and families. The department offers a variety of counseling, educational, and outreach services and programs. Applications for these positions will be accepted until Monday, August 31, 2015.
- There is an opening for an Associate Member to the Planning Board until the next election in April, 2016, and an opening on the Zoning Board of Appeals for a term to expire in June of 2018.
In order to be considered for appointment, you must be a registered voter in the Town of Wayland.
Citizens considering service on any of the boards or committees (other than the WRAP Committee) can express their interest by letter or email. The application process is easy. The letter should include a statement of interest and provide information on your education and experience (professional or volunteer) relevant to these positions. Many citizens submit a resume or bulleted summary of this background information with a brief letter of interest.
Typically, the Board of Selectmen interview candidates as part of a regular meeting usually held at 7:00 p.m. the Town Building. You may be contacted to schedule an interview.
